The Road to a Virtuous EMR - Episode V
Billy Diggin outlines a "Dear Santa wishlist" for healthcare providers looking to move away from the inefficiencies of paper. " We run a mid-sized hospital, we are its management and its clinicians. We have tried to be good in 2014, we have tried to give the best patient care. We have great people, we have great protocols, but..."
Dear Santa,
We run a mid-sized hospital, we are its management and its clinicians. We have tried to be good in 2014, we have tried to give the best patient care. We have great people, we have great protocols, but our technology is old. It is made from processed wood. While this old technology is easy to use, it is very inefficient.
We would like to:
- Write data once and use it many times
- Have legible, complete and real-time documentation
- Coordinate processes between clinical, administrative and management
- Provide administrative data to all the team
- Reduce the cost of processing referrals
- Improve clinical outcomes through sepsis care pathway*
- Improve clinical outcomes via pneumonia care pathway
- Reduce adverse events through medication management
- Standardise information to enable interoperability and decision support
- Improve our clinical processes using evidence-based medicine
- Drive efficiencies in processes that are highly prone to errors
- Identify to right information at the right time for the patient condition
- Have access to information at the point of care
- Reduce errors in discharge summaries
- Provide cost-effective referral documentation
- Reduce errors in communication between services
Please can you bring us something that will help?
