International Support
Vitro Software supports the International charity Operation Smile, though the donation of our software Vitro. Operation Smile is an international children's medical charity that performs safe, effective cleft lip and cleft palate surgery, and delivers postoperative and ongoing medical therapies to children in over 60 low and middle income countries. Every three minutes a child is born with a cleft. A child with a cleft has twice the odds of dying before their first birthday. Children with cleft conditions who survive may have difficulty eating, speaking, hearing or breathing properly. In some places, they are shunned and rejected. Operation Smile is the largest volunteer-based children's medical charity providing free cleft surgeries, with over 5,400 medical volunteers. Operation Smile has provided over 220,000 free surgical procedures for children and young adults. In addition they train local medical professionals in developing countries around the world and strengthen healthcare systems so more children in some of the poorest areas in the world can be treated.
Vitro Software are supporting Operation Smile though the donation of our software, Vitro. Vitro replaces the current paper based processes throughout the charity worldwide. Not only will this eliminate reliance on paper and afford the charity all the benefits of Vitro, but it will allow them to carry out analysis on the electronic data captured from all around the world, contributing towards medical research. Operation Smile emphasise the importance of research in trying to identify common criteria in people with clef pallets and cleft lips, to identify trends and ultimately reduce the level of incidence.
Operation Smile also required a system that was able to support and enhance their model of care in their medical missions and surgical programs. Operation Smile rely on contributions from a talented team of medical volunteers who work evaluating between 300 to 500 children, and surgically treating 100-150 children throughout the two week period of each mission. To support the level of missions and number of children evaluated and treated each year by medical volunteers, Operation Smile required software that was easy to use and could be learned within minutes. The alternatives were seen to be counter productive and take away from the number of children evaluated and treated each year. Many of our people have been privileged to support Operation Smile and experience remote medical missions, re-enforcing the importance of Vitro to Operation Smile, the difference it will make to their work and the constantly philosophy to innovate and push boundaries. View the video below which outlines the support Microsoft, Vitro Software, Synergy Technology and Polycom are providing to support the work of Operation Smile.
